2000 Boxster - Leak coming from Cam Cover

Just had my 2000 Boxster in for the 45,000 mile service. Tech said "Cam covers were leaking slightly. Left more than the right. Not an urgent matter but one worth monitoring." Any thoughts? Any drawbacks from not fixing right away?

Welcome to the forum.

Are they sure it is the cam cover and not the O-rings for the spark plug tubes? This is a much more common leak than the cam covers and can look very much like a cam cover leak.

Resealing the cam covers is not an "insignificant" job.

Thanks for the reply.

No, its definitely from the seam of the cam cover. From what I understand now there is no gasket involved. The cover is secured at the factory with some sort of glue. With the Mobile 1 being so thin, minor leakage does happen. In my case its a few drops here and there. Very minor. Doesn't even show up on the garage floor. The few drops hit the exhaust and burn/smoke. I will monitor for the time being.

WHAT is the status of your oil leak since Feb. 2007? Did you confirm if it is the cam cover or the spark plug o ring?

Thanks,

John
