Does anyone have information on replacing the ignition switch assembly with the updated one (housing & switch) for the earlier Boxsters. I've seen the links or threads on replacing just the switch, but was wondering what was involved in replacing the entire assembly. I'm concerned about having future problems if I just replace the switch on my 98 as it seems many people have had to replace the switch multiple times if the entire updated assembly isn't installed. For the past few years, I have to manually turn the key back to the run position after starting (it doesn't return by itself) or the accessories - radio, climate control, etc, do not function. I'm concerned that if I replace just the switch I may end up with worse problems if the replacement fails. To replace the assembly, does the steering wheel or column have to come off, or is it all done from under the dash?

Thank you Tool Pants. I didn't find this article before I posted, maybe because it was under 996 forum. I should have thought to check there.
I also have to replace the turn signal switch, and it looks as if there is no overlap between these two repairs (other than disconnecting battery)? If so, I think I'll do them at different times. Anyone know where to find a 4th stalk for the OBC switching? |
