Porsche Crest boxster won't start, not a battery problem

my boxster wouldn't start today, the battery is fine just the starter wouldn't turn over when i turned the key.I thought it might be a loose wire in the ignition so i took of the instrument cluster and checked. it was fine so i tried starting it again before i reconnected the instrument cluster and it started. But when i reconnected the instruments it would not start.i narrowed the problem down to the connection (cluster of wires) that provides power to the dials, the one on the right side with the black cover(left hand drive).if this is connected i cannot start the car but if i disconnect it the car starts as normal and i can reconnect it when the engine is running and it causes no problems. Cheers
