Cayman targa so no more Boxster?

My brother just bought came back from a Porsche dealership. He said the salesguy told him Porsche is planning on making a Cayman targa and will be discontinuing the Boxster. I think that's a mistake if the rumor is true. Have you fellas heard of this rumor? BTW, my bro bought a Cayenne so I don't see why a salesguy would lie about it.

This is a new one.

I have been Boxstering for 9 years and gotten to know people at my local dealer over the years. Some of the salespeople have been there for a dozen years or more. They have no special source of information. They have a message board on pcnasource.com. Just like us customers have message boards.

I take this rumor with a grain of salt. I would not be suprised if this started on pcnasource.

While at the dealership I have seen sales people speculating on all sorts of things on the pcnasource message board.

Wouldn't believe it for a minute. Boxsters outsell Caymans. Maybe the salesguy was thinking of the Pontiac Solstice coupe

I certainly haven't heard anything about this, and frankly, it would surprise me. It would coast a lot more money to develop a targa version of the Cayman than to just continue producing the Boxster.

Also, they will be releasing the new facelifted 2010 Boxster alongside the facelifted Cayman so I highly doubt this is true. (See a sneak peek of what they will look like here.)

Maybe the dealer was confused with the 911 Targa that is just coming out?

This sounds like the possible sub-Boxster car they MAY develop. It would be a 4 cylinder car.

Not a replacement. More like another model with better milage and emissions to help the fleet.
