Boxster Transmission/gearbox advice please
Some tech advice and info please.
I want to mate a transaxle such as the Boxster type to a V8 engine. Potentially the engine could be 400bhp and 400 ib/ft torque but the vehicle overall will only be about a ton. (1000kg/2240 Ib) I don't need 6 speed as think 5 speed will be enough in a light weight V8 car. I have limited space so have been looking at the boxster set up as it appears quite short. I have a LSD 944/951 box but it is too long. So my questions are; 1 What is the strongest gearbox in the Boxster range and will it cope??? 2 Has any one the deimnsions of the box?? I need 2 measurements being a; overall length and b; measuremetn from centre of the drive shaft output to the front face of the bellhousing. Please any help out there? Would much appreciate it. The 5spd is an audi designed unit, iirc, buily by Aisin.
The 6spd unit in the BoxS/996 is a Getrag designed and built piece. That box is used in 250hp-450hp applications. I don't think the boxster 5-spd is designed for that much HP/TQ. I do know that many folks use the G50 from the '87-94 911s mated to a V8 motor.

G50 is ideal for me but just too expensive hence looking at Boxster possibilities. Thanks for the info on the 6 speed. I thought all the boxes were Audi derivatives so didn't think it was different. Does anyone have a box handy htey can take some dimensions from for me?????// Thanks Mark |
