Leg Room + Center Console Question
After living with the tight squeeze between the steering wheel and the center console for four years, I'm looking for some relief for my 6'4" frame. Has anyone removed their center console in their 1st generation Boxster in search of more clearance? If you did, does it help?
Is there substantially more room in the interior of a second generation Boxster? ![]() Thanks,

Yes many have removed the center console for more room.
Porsche sells parts to finish off the under dash area that covers the exposed wiring. The kit is called "Carrara/Boxster GT3 console delete" or something similar. Our host should have it. ![]() ![]() |

Kinda kills the best place to put a pair of shades, but I like the look. Now if someone would develop a small shelf right below the radio for those all important shades...

I am 6'2" and did the GT3 console delete kit in our Boxster. Much more comfortable without the right shin making contact with the CD tray. Was about $100 and well worth it. Sunglasses can go in the door pocket, and the CD's go out the window with an iPod adapter.

Anyone know of a good solution to add more legroom by moving the seat back further? I haven't been able to find a good solution...

This is a great improvement. I'm only 5'9'' and didn't realize how much my leg was in contact with the console. Much more comfortable.

Not 987 compatible... Different dash/console design. Plus, in the 986, for some years, the only thing you are removing is a tape/cd holder and storage bin. The 987 has other goodies in its center console if memory serves me correctly.

It was about 6 months ago that I did this conversion . If I remember right , you have to carefully pry off the carpeted and vinel sides of the center piece. This exposes the bolts that hold the whole thing together. I was able to pry them off with out braking them but if I remember right it felt like it took alot of force. There are two other bolt forward by the shifter. You should be able to see them once you get inside. Good luck.
