Wow - Thanks Wayne! I don't even know which project to begin with! I just purchased the 'TechnoBrace', and was going to put that on in the next week or so, so was glad to have the extra instructions on that. Just wish I had seen this before doing my EVO Cold Air intake. Like you said, it was much more difficult than I expected!
Can't wait for the Boxster Projects book to become available! Thanks again for this great information. Mark |

Pedro asked me specifically if the engine had been dropped or not. I told him no, and even measured the width between the 2 bolts, and he said it was OEM Specifications, so I should be good. Not sure if I'll get a chance to install it this weekend or not! We'll see.

Thanks Wayne
I'll be using your instructions on jacking up the Boxster and replacing the plugs. Saturday I plan to replace a coil pack that appears to be the cause of the following codes:
P0300: Porsche fault code 62 - misfire damaging to cat converter P0304: Porsche fault code 66 - Cylinder 4 misfire damaging to cat converter The CEL is on but it isn't flashing. Based on the description of the code, I will have it flat-bedded to a shop if I can't repair it myself. Wish me luck. By the way, I bought the coil pack from Pelican Parts (the shipment is scheduled to arrive Friday.) So there is a return on your investment of time and energy. |

Cool thanks! Let me know if you have any questions! Indeed, those are ominous sounding code faults!

Thanks! I'm due for my 90,000 mile service and that means changing the fluid in the tiptronic. I was debating taking it somewhere or doing it myself. Now with the article I'll probably do it myself.

I'm slowly getting bolder with the repairs and modifications I'm willing to try on the Boxster. To date I have replaced the battery, one O2 sensor, the light switch in the front trunk, the cabin and engine air filters, the hinge for the center compartment and several light bulbs. I have also installed the hard top spinlocks, a Traffic Pro navigation system, iPod cable and the "garage door opener hack" using the Targa shade switch. I change the oil for myself and for a friend who also owns a Boxster. My wife purchased a used Durametric for me at Christmas. This is the first CEL I've had since I've had the system, so it is my first attempt at diagnosis and repair. I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew. It seems like the coil pack is the most likely culprit. There are other possibilities, so the car may still end up on the flat bed. |

I changed the coil pack on cylinder #4 and cleared the fault codes. I took the car for a 5-mile drive and it is running smoothly with no sign of a misfire and no CEL. I'm going out for a longer drive in about an hour, so that should be the real test.
Interestingly, the part number for the new coil pack is 997 602 107 00. The coil pack I replaced was 996 602 100 021. Both were manufactured by Beru. |

Cool. I actually like working on these late-model cars. They actually tell you what is wrong with them, and make it really easy. Try that on a 1984 Carrera - it's a big pain!
A lot of the original 986/996 parts have been superseded to the 987/997 ones. The coil packs are shared among all of the cars, so this is not surprising. Great news, thanks for sharing! -Wayne
