Windshield Wiper Problem

I am having several problems with my windshield wiper which may or may not be related. On my 2000 Boxster S, the following is happening:

On either low or high setting, the wipers go up and down normally but when I turn them off, it freezes at the position it was turned off at rather than coming back down to the default position.

On the intermittent setting, the wipers do not go up and down normally. Rather it will go up, come down, and then freeze at the same spot (~1/3 up) and then continue to go up and down and then freeze on it's way up again at the same point repeatedly. Like with the normal settings, it will freeze at whichever point it was at when I turn it off.

I took it to a dealership and they said that it could be a relay, combo switch, or even something else but since I took it in for something else at the time, I guess they didn't eliminate to what exactly the issue is.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am still trying to figure out what part(s) is causing this if somebody wants to give me their suggestion.

My 2001 also freezes in the spot at which they are turned off. I'll be eager to read your solution. Frankly, I have never yet driven my Boxster in the rain! So, although a little annoying, it has been fairly easy to live with.

What about your intermittent settings? Does it also freeze ~1/3 of the way up while it's running?

Well, I just went to the garage and tried it on intermittent... it don't work! It acts as if I had just turned it off... freezes on the spot and then never moves again... no intermittent function at all. Bummer! I had never tried it there. As I said, I don't drive it in the rain too often, virtually never, I just hop in the Suburban instead.

I'll be looking forward to hearing your solution as it appears we have similar issues. I am planning a major road trip with the car, far away from the safety of the garage, away from the Suburban, so full function of the wipers will most likely be needed at some point!

Thanks

Steve
