Any danger using this as a front jacking point?
2004 986. Want to lift the front so as to use the normal points for jack stands.
I'm referring to the steel plate with the two large bolts pictured. It appears to connect the front control arm mounting to the chassis - should be string, yes? Grant, I personally use an old hockey puck that I cut a 1/2 wide slot in and use that on the unibody weld. Just be carefull as there are lines for the AC the run along side the passenger side of US sold vehicles. I use the puck as it affords me more options to slide the jack a bit further down so I can slip my jack stand in where the actual lift point is. The hockey puck fits onto my jack perfectly and if yours has a small bump on the jack pad you can turn the puck over and scoop out some material so it lays flat on the jacks lifting pad. I also use hockey pucks on my jack stands so that I dont have metal to metal lift contact. I took a 'donor' puck and made 'oval' shaped tops and then took a drywall screw and screwed those onto 4 other pucks that sit atop my jack stands. They are stable and the hard vulcanized rubber of the pucks provides ample protection to the underbody lift points. If you'd like I can take pics for you so you can see them on the jack stands and the jack. Just let me know.

Thanks Mike. Its good to know the weld works.
Is the weld seam sufficiently strong along its entire length???

It should be OK, those bolts and the rest of the suspension (which hold up your car) are attached to the only "subframe" the cars has. Just be aware that Porsche emphatically states that you should NOT jack anywhere other than the designated jack points.
It's your decision! I have on occasions jacked the car there but since installed a lift YOU DECIDE Harry

Unibody weld jacking
Grant, I only slide the jack forward and aft a small bit so I can slip in my jack stands. Approx 4 to 6 inches on both the front and rears. Just be carefull on the passenger side as those high pressure A/C lines could get crimped.

For collective info: I checked yesterday with two porsche shops - both in fact indicate its one of their preferred lift points. So it is an accepted point to jack the car by and very strong.
