1999 Boxster - Window Doesn't Move when Door Handle Activated
Intro:
'New to Forum.. Purchased 1999 Boxster 2 yrs ago. '1st Porsche Background Check Engine light several weeks ago.. 'Found this sight, purchased Service Manual, "101 Projects..," Maintenance and OBD II Manual, and Parts CD. With help of "101 Projects.." was able to find Throttle Position Sensor wire was damaged ('Not sure of cause..). I repaired wire; 'fault cleared. Through the experience, I developed a greater appreciation of my vehicle - and really appreciate the resources available on this site. On to next project: Left window does not drop when handle activated. 'Sounds like something moving inside, but window doesn't move. ('So I'm thinking microswitches are ok.) Windows operate fine with switch. Could window holding clamps need adjustment? Could cabling have stretched? If so, is it adjustable? Thoughts? I'm looking for thoughts before I start project 76 - Removing door panel. Thanks in advance. |

I had the same issue with my car. I messed with it for hours trying to adjust it. Finally, I gave up, and ordered a new window regulator, thinking that it *might* be worn out and might fix the problem. Bottomline, it worked 100%. Within about 30 minutes, the window was dropping down perfectly. I previously had thought I could "adjust" it out, but what had happened was that there was too much slop in the mechanism, and although the motor was pushing the window down, the slop / wear in the mechanism made it not drop down properly. I think this is going to be a common replacement procedure for years to come.
My article on replacing the regulator: Pelican Technical Article: Boxster Window Regulator Replacement / Boxster Window Switch Replacement / Boxster Window Motor Replacement - 986 / 987 And the regulator itself: Porsche Boxster 97-04 - Panels & Doors - Page 1 Hope this helps, Wayne
