In the Boxster game
Me and a buddy are now co-owners of a 1999 Boxster. We plan on developing the car for street modified autocross but will begin evaluating in stock class. Miles were on the high side 170,000+ but Carfax shows regular dealer service for much of that time. It has a substantial dent in the right rear fender but the interior is decent.

If it's a 99, the "limited slip" is really just traction control that brakes individual wheels when they start to slip. It does not hold a candle to a real LSD, so if you're going to seriously track it, it's worth looking at getting a real one installed in the transmission. You can also get your computer programmed to switch off the existing traction control.

Yes, I believe that is a trickery option that is really just a primitive version of traction control, just like Steve mentioned. Not a terrible option, but not super useful for the track either. FYI, it's my opinion that a limited slip differential (LSD) for a street car is not necessary.

I read up on that and it's only mentioned in the owners manual briefly. Detects rear wheel spin and corrects. It's defeated when you turn PSM off.
