Cutoff Switch

I have a 1999 Boxster. I would like to install a cutoff toggle switch. The instructions that I received with it is to splice into the ignition coil. It doesn't
say which one. All the spark plugs have one. I am a little leary about cutting a wire on a coil. Which coil do I connect this to? or is there another location (wire,
fuse, etc) that I can make the connection? Is the cutoff switch neccessary or am I paranoid?

Adding a cut off switch to one coil will only shut off one cylinder, not what I think you are trying to do. You would be better off to locate the fuel pump power wire and put it there, that would prevent the car from starting...............

What are you trying to prevent? I've never seen a Boxster owner who felt it necessary to install such a switch and I see many much more expensive cars without them.

As Mike stated, what are you trying to accomplish? Cut-off switches are used to cut the positive battery lead, typically in a track car application. Cutting power on a street car will cause numerous issues with the car's computer system and would not be recommended.

If you want to cut off the fuel pump, then I would recommend tapping into and interrupting the flow to the fuel pump relay. Instructions can be gleaned from my article here: Pelican Technical Article: Boxster Fuel Pump Replacement - 986 / 987

I think the cheapest way to accomplish this would be to simply pull the fuel pump relay. Doesn't prevent the car from being towed though...
