Engine Cleaning & Protectant

What products have you guys had luck with for cleaning and subsequently protecting your engine and engine bay?

There's a lot of discussion on this - you may want to search and include the 911 forum as well. I think the consensus is that any good degreaser that is environmentally safe (sortof like Simple Green) works pretty well. Try to avoid getting it on seals and rubber parts (which is difficult). As for a protectant, the engine doesn't really need one in my opinion - adding these chemicals to the mix can generally cause more problems with rubber parts and seals than they are worth in the long run.
