Radio?heater control unit surround
Hi, I recently bought a new one piece surround for my 2003 Boxster S, and need some advice for removal of old and replacement of new. I have tried prying the old one out at the edges with plastic tire tube repair 'spatulas' as suggested by my porsche dealer. This didn't seem to work too well and I was worried about damaging the leather this way. Looking at the fixing clips on the new unit, it seems like the unit will 'pop' out, but in practice it is very tight and will not budge. Is there some trick I need to know? I noticed the recesses for cigarette lighter and wiper speed control in the new surround is designed with a 'lip' suggesting these items need to have some kind of retainer ring removed first. Anyone got any experience with these things??
Any and all advice appreciated. gary ![]() |

Found a better picture
Ok this is the actual foto of the surround showing the damage caused by someone not using the correct radio removal keys.
Any advice would be appreciated. ![]() |

I'm pretty sure this just snaps on. Since you are replacing this piece, you shouldn't be shy about pulling on it with an amazing amount of force...

as far as I remember these two things are attached to the horseshoe so they will come out with it
BTW: Not sure of you noticed but they put your steering wheel on the wrong side ;-)

I am certain that it just snaps out and that the lighter and wiper control come with it. Just slide a thin plastic spatular behind one side and lever it out.

Radio?heater control unit surround
Thanks guys, will give it a go!
By the way, can anyone confirm the Becker radio/CD unit model number? Is it a CDR23? That's the only number I can find for it. I need some radio removal keys fo it. Cheers! |
