convertible top dash light take 2

Just bought a 1998, and I already exposed my problem with the dash light, under the subject “convertible top dash light”. All the manuals came with the car, I read somewhere today that when putting the convertible top down, what are you supposed to do with the latch? are you supposed to leave the main latch unlatched? Or, after unlatching the latch and lowering the top part way, are you supposed to relatch the latch so that the latch handle is in the closed position when the top fully retracts and goes into its stowed position? The fellow of the used car lot where I bought it told to me relatch the latch. I also read that if you relatch that latch, there’s a micro switch (in the latch?) that will interrupt the cycle, and the computer is messed up? Nevertheless, there is one question I have that is not answered in the owner's manual.
Thanks to all that have been helping me with this, can anybody enlighten me what I’m I supposed to do with the latch, could it be an error registered in the car’s computer? Or could it be a micro switch?
Thanks in advance for any more help.

Well Oldguy57,
The latch just stays unlatched, no need to do anything with it. I would venture to guess it is one of the micro switches for the top.
Have you checked the one at the latch on the windshield? I'm no expert by any sense of the word, but that's where I'd start.

Hello Garry:

Thanks for your reply. I'm no expert also but it seems that the micro switch on the windshield works. When top is on and the latch is engaged, windows will go up all the way, if unlatched, windows will go down some centimeters, then stop, but not allways, some times one of the two windows decides to go all the way down by itself! when the top is retracted and in stowed position, the windows will go up, but 3/4 only! besides that, everything works well with the top, but the light stays on and wondows will not go all the way up when retracted.
Best regards:
Fermin

Here's a thought, have you been you been holding the switch down after a second or two after the top is all the way down?
I know I didn't until I read the manual.
Hope it helps!
Garry

Yes, and it is strange, if I do that the "top half hard hood" will try to open again, odd? isn't it, I think I'll have to see someone at the dealer for this matter.
Thanks again!

Well, went to the dealer for my convertible roof top problem... believe it or not, they didn't find it! had some maintenance work on the car, and wanted to know of past records. At list the dealer was kind enough to let me know some of my car's history... but I tell you, that the only thing "high end" is the price!! not the service, well I think they're are not interested on helping owners of old cars, can't understand it, should be their pride!
As soon as the Canada Post conflict in solved, I'll be ordering the front latch microswithc from Pelican parts,at list I'll begin with that!
Best regards for everybody!
