The problem with buying a used regulator is that it is impossible to know if they are worn internally or not. I had a lot of trouble with my regulator not lowering the window down the few millimeters or so when you open the door. I tried adjusting the heck out of that thing, and it wouldn't work. Finally, I just replaced the regulator, thinking that it may be worn internally. That did the trick. So, used ones may work for lowering the window down using the switch, but if they have too much slop in them, then they may not properly lower your window down that little bit when you open the door.

I would just buy a new one to be sure.
