Which MAF Sensor??? Help Wayne
I have a 2000 986 with 2.7L engine 5 speed manual. Needs a new MAF sensor.
There are two different MAF sensors with two different part numbers for the 2000 Boxster. Which one do I get? Both manufacturered by Bosche 2.7L Engine - To Chassis Range 620414 and with Electronic Throttle($213) It says Only for year 2000 Boxster. Manufacturer Part Number: 0 280 218 009 Interchange Part Number: 996 606 124 00 OR 2.7L Engine ($248) It says for 2000-2003 Boxster. Manufacturer Part Number: 0 280 218 055 Interhchange Part Number: 986 606 125 01 00 If it helps, eventhough my Boxster is a 2000 model, it was manufactured in 1999 as it says in the door sticker. Any ideas? Which one is right for my car.

To be sure, pull the old one and see what is painted on it. MAF Examination is a 5 minute job once you have the covers off and is good practice for the replacement once you have the part.

+1 on mikes info, I think Wayne would also tell you to check the part number on the maf before ordering it. Also as you have seen they are still not cheap for such a small part, you might try to clean it well with some CRC maf cleaner. I did mine, and it solved the problem, either way, enjoy.

You might already know it, but the screws that hold the MAF sensor in place are "security" items. They have a little pin that keeps you from using a regular bit. O'Reillys sells a small kit of every "security" driver bit you'll ever need for about $5.
