Water Pump Replacement
The water pump on my 2000 S had the impeller completely disintegrate. After removing the pump I checked the fluid container and only found one small part of the impeller--- I make the assumption that the rest of it is in the water jacket. Is there any good way to get all the pieces out of the water jacket? Thought about probing with some wire, using a shop vac and am out of ideas. Am not sure where all the pieces are.

If it were my car or a customers car I would start by taking off all the lower trays, front to back, take of the hoses to the radiators and the engine hoses and thermostat, then use a garden hose and start back flushing starting with the engine through the tank then through the radiators until you find all the pieces or most of them. Unless you tow it to a professional shop that has a coolant exchanger machine.

How many miles did you have on it when it went?

Steveng1993--- Milage is just over 73000--- after the fact (my stupidity being established) I realized that a knocking that I thought was the throw out bearing was the water pump. It only knocked at start up and quickly went away but that had to be the slow disintegration of the impeller.

harrycrb--- I was afraid it would be something like that! The question has to be the direction of the flow. Is the thermostat on the outflow or inflow side? If it's the outflow back flushing the engine will be easier but-------

Did you notice engine overheating since the water pump is not working?

I saw a little bit of increase in temp but not a lot a degree or so of arc on the gage. the telling indicator (in retrospect) was a knocking sound that I thought was something else but was in fact the disintegration of the impeller over time. Now I know that it was the water pump and know that I should have immediately changed the pump when I first heard the sound.
