New Owner - Quick questions

Hi there,

heard great things about this forum, and thought I would post up a few issues I am having with my 05 Boxster, with 9100 miles.

Car is in great shape but I noticed yesterday when I opened the top the two little rubber pieces on the trim that covers where the top stores keep coming off.

I can push them back in, and they seem undamaged, there are metal clips that hold the rubber over a thin edge of metal. What can I do to deal with this, should it be lubricated to stop it sticking?

Also, they is an 05 with 9k miles, should I be thinking about IMS upgrade, or was that not an issue in the 05. I see conflicting reports so I am unsure.

***Last one, I have an issue with a "check front left light" error on dash. The lights all look good so I am not sure what is causing the issue. This causes another problem, I can't check oil level with the light error. Ideas? *** FIGURED THIS ONE OUT - I missed the tiny parking light bulb, will go get another tomorrow.

Thank you,
Jack

Here is a picture of the area I am talking about, circled in red. This rubber piece pops off on both sides when I open the top.

Should I lubricate it or glue it?

Thanks,
Jack

Do not lubricate or glue - that piece doesn't belong there. It is put there temporarily while removing the engine cover. Once finished accessing the top side of the engine, it gets fastened to a couple of plastic hooks on the near side of the opening, down below closer to where you're holding the drill.

Hopefully, someone else will post a picture to clarify.

Ah, so it is there to stop you cutting fingers etc?

Thank you for the reply.

I do...seventythree is incorrect. That lip is where that plastic peice belongs. It's very common that they don't clip as tight and pop off. Part of a major service usually includes lubricating the seals that these strips stick to. You can try pinching the little metal clamps to hold tighter too.

I stand corrected.
Looking at the photo, I thought the OP was pointing out the plastic piece that attaches the apron to the plastic hooks on the rear firewall. My eyes aren't what they used to be.

Thank you, what should I lubricate it with?

I will also try to gently tighten the clips.

No worries 73, thank you for replying.

I ordered gummi pfledge, and will put it on the top pieces.

I had my push rods both snap yesterday and ordered the parts here. I am not sure why the plastic snapped, guessing the tonneau getting stuck wasva precursor.

I did notice when removing the push rods that they were not tightly screwed in. There was some play on both pieces. Should these be tightened to the point where there is no looseness?

I don't want to install the new ones and have them snap again, any insight would be welcome.

Lastly, car only has 9k miles, what preventative maintenance is a must?

Thank you

Frequent oil changes - like every 3,000 miles (5000 absolute max).

Thanks Wayne, will change the oil shortly.

Any ideas on the push rods, should I make sure they are screwed in tightly with no lateral play?

Jack
