CEL code P0430 read on 2000 Boxster S
I bought a 2000 Boxster S in Feb. It has been running fune until this week, when I got a CEL light. I read the code and it is a single code, P0430 Catylist system eff below threshold Bank 2. Any suggestions on next steps. I did get a bit of smoke out the exhaust on a start up recently. It happened only twice though. Looking to understand what I may have to do next. Heard I might want to clean mass flow sensor or change out Air-oil seperator? Looking for suggestions. Have a 74 914 and a 68 912, but this is first I'll work on this one.

Welcome to the forum.
The P0430, if not other codes are shown (primary or pending codes) is most likely a bad cat. If this code was also with an O2 aging code (primary or pending), then the downstream O2 sensor is most likely the culprit. Did you see any pending codes? This code is also a 2-drive cycle code which means the car has to be driven a certain way on two separate occasions before the CEL is set -- this is why you didn't get the code immediately. If you feel motivated, you could swap the two downstream O2 sensors to see if the problem will move to the other bank (giving you a P0420 instead). Sent you a PM. Regards, paul...
