Anyone know of a speciality shop that makes timing chains or modifies them?
I am trying to help a good friend of mine out. He is looking for someone that makes custom timing chains or could modify his existing timing chain with a master link. Here is the message he forwarded me, and a picture of what he is dealing with. I would really like to find an answer for him if I could. He has helped me out on my race car ALOT. Here is what he sent me.....
I have a 2002 Porsche Boxster S 3.2 that suffered from a broken timing chain. What I wanted to find out is if there is a way that a timing chain could have a master link or connection link added. I have found chains for some of the older Porsches that use a connecting link but no one offers one for this engine at this time. With a master link i could replace the chain without having to split the cases. ![]() |

I was wondering that myself as there are some chain issues with these engines. The old 911 engines have a replaceable double chain, I wonder if it's the same specs. Any engine gurus care to comment?

"Master links" have pretty much disappeared from timing chains as they are also the "weakest link" in these systems, particularly on longer chains with multiple tensioning paddles. When the chain failed, it probably also did in one or more of the paddle wear pads as well. The engine needs to come apart.

The heads have been removed which gives access to the rails. They are going to be replaced but the engine shows almost no ware do to only having 33000 on the clock when chain failed. Good input on the rails as it would be easy to over look.
