I have a 1998 boxster I just rebuilt the engine and the water pump is turning backwards and the engine is over heating. any suggestions on where I went wrong/

The only way I could imagine this happening is if the drive belt is misrouted or the water pump is defective.

Pretty much impossible for that to happen with a one sided serpentine belt. The impeller could be designed for the other direction if its the wrong application, but it would still pump.
They are centrifugal. They pump from center to outlet. The belt would have to be routed with the backside on the ump pulley for it to turn in reverse. My guess is you didn't bleed the system properly. The best way to fill these cars is to use a vacuum system. You draw it down, then let the vacuum draw the coolant in. |
