Cool Soft Top window renewed

Here are the rest of the images.
I was going to try and tack the new PVC window in place, but didnt realy have the
equipment to do that. You will see in some of the other photo's I have the roof the
other way round. The PVC being supported up to the roof with cushions. I found
this to be a good way to do it.

You can see here I have the roof in the house. Its been very cold hear in the UK,
so it was a nice cosy place to do the job. This job by the way, is one stitch at a time
with the easy stitch. The whole job from start to finish took me about 14 hours.
If I ever did it again it would take about 8 hours.

I have done all the bottom edge at this point, see the easy stitch hanging down.

This is the inside of the roof, showing the vinyl trim stuck on to cover the stitching.
Porsche sowed this on when they did the window. I found it impossible with the
roof on its frame. If you had the roof off the frame flat down on a big bench, then
it could be done. I found that the glue strip on the vinyl has held it fine.

This is the new PVC window, 1mm thick. I am sticking the glue strip on.

This is the finished job. On the window is the easy stitch tool plus two hand vices
with needles. I found these real handy for holding the window in position while
I stitched in the window. If I had more of these I would have pined it in place all the
way round, that would have been the ideal for me.

I will post some photo's of the roof on the car. I need to check the trays on the car first to
see if there are any tears.

Thats it all finished and folded up ready to take out to the car. The roof when it is folded up is quite easy to carry. I will post photo's with the Top on the car soon. I have a little work to do first checking the liners for tears. If you have any questions just ask.

Cool Soft Top window renewed

Here are a few more photo's of the roof going back on the car.

This is how the roof needs to be put back on the car, with it open like this. I managed on my own, but it would be easy for two to lift it on. Put some protection in the trays before you drop the roof in, as they can be easily damaged. I used some old towels, and pulled them out when it was in position.

The roof needs to be real tight up to the door before you try and get your first bolt in the bracket.

You can see the green bolt here, just get a few turns on it then move to the other side of the car.

This is the other side, I have the green bolt in. Now I am preparing to put the rest of the bolts in. You can see I have a 9mm ply packer under the bracket. I found it needed lifting a little to line the other two bolts up. The next photo shows you how I got it under the bracket.

This is how I lifted the roof to get the packer in. You have to be very careful with the trays under and around the bracket, they can be easily damaged. Some people get a flooded car either with damaged trays or blocked drain holes. When I took my roof of I noticed a couple of small tears in the trays, don't no how they got there. I sealed them with a black body panel polyurethane compound.

Thats it for now, I will show the finished job in another post.

Cool

Thats it for now, I will show the finished job in another post.[/QUOTE]

As promised, the finished job, and what better test, the British weather. Although to be fare we have had just over a week of lovely sunshine. No leaks so far, I am really pleased with the job and wouldn't hesitate to do another one if I had too.
