New Cayman...what did Porsche do here?!

Is it my imagination, or does the New Gen Cayman look like a portly Boxster coupe now?

Gone is that very svelte, sleek look, and it seems the car has porked out by 200lbs(visually).

I know the new car is "better", but what a let-down from a design standpoint.

I test drove a 2013 Cayman a few months back. Black on black, manual shift (rare now), all sports options, it was a VERY nice car. But I do not think the body styling is near as sexy as the 1st gen. I couldn't really open it up on extremely wet city streets but I did like the rev matching setting.

A few years ago back in Belmont, California I saw a Boxster that looked right at home in the traffic. A few years later I buy one - a 2001 Boxster base and am happy with it. Now I see the later designs of Boxster/Cayman and I could like them just as much. It would have to have a manual transmission. I must say my Boxster styling is looking a little dated. The new modern curves have an added appeal.

I like the looks of the new Cayman and Boxster, with one exception - the wheels look comically large in relation to the car.

Those wheels are not standard issue, Steve. As you can see above the picture CEC is a tuning company that sells very very expensive cosmetics for many cars. I agree, these wheels look awful on this car. But I love the looks of the new Cayman.
