Winterizing
I am slowly getting ready to put away for winter my 2001 Boxster S .What is the best way to do ? I was going to do an oil change, wash/clean the car, put 50 psi air int the tires, top up all the fluids, connect the battery to a charger and put a cover on the car. I have non heated garage. Should I put stabilizer in the fuel tank ? This is the right way? If not please let me know.
Thank you. Cheers. ![]() |

I would say you've covered it pretty well. And yes, add Sta-Bil, fill the tank, and run the car for a while to get the treated gas through. Also I'd leave it in gear without the emergency brake on.

Battery on charger or maintainer? The latter unless you want to boil the battery.
Some dozen or more other thoughts here .... |

Should I be worried about just disconnecting the negative terminal? I'd obviously leave the frunk open. Seems better than keeping the battery cycling all winter long.

There are maintainers that just sit on the floor of the passenger compartment and plug into the cigarette lighter socket and maintain the battery without overcharging it. There is even a cutout in the weatherstripping on the under side of the door for an extension cord to be routed through. People have used em for years and didn't hurt a thing. I used one for months at a time and over 4 winters and I have no idea how many years were on the battery before I bought the car.
You really don't want to just disconnect the battery and close the hood to keep out the rodents .... you need the battery to operate the trunk opening unless you have rerouted the emergency trunk opening cable. |

Thats pretty much what I did for my 2003 Boxster S, Sada. I changed the oil and filter, checked the air filter and cabin filter, checked the fluids, checked the drive belt, and made sure to top off the windshield washer fluid....don't have a heated garage and don't want the washer tank to crack. I washed it inside and out, treated the leather, and took the rims off and washed the inner fenders and washed and waxed the rims. While the rims were off, I checked the rotors and pads. I then inflated the tires to 50 psi, parked it and installed the Ctech on the battery and put her blanket on her.

couple other things - use "e-free" non-ethonal gas for storing. Getting harder to find, but there are stations out there still selling it. Ethonal based gas contains water = bad for internals. Also, moth balls under car, especially near engine. Mice and other rodents don't like the smell.

Thanks for the suggestion. Found this which aligns to the recommendation to not just let the battery sit: Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ, Battery Manufacturers and Brand Names List, and
Off to find a good charger. Looked before and the recommendations seemed to be for the CTEK 3300 which was about $70. |
