Boxster help requested - 987 acceleration trails off
Has anyone seen this problem before: 2005 987 base with 102k miles and well serviced, occasionally but sequentially drops acceleration. Specifically, when pulling from a stop light or stop sign, pressing the accelerator does not produce forward momentum or rpms - power just drops off.
Lifting and repressing the pedal a couple of time seems to re-synch engine rpms as normal. Once I put in some BG44, didn't experience problem for a month, but its back. Different premium gas doesn't seem to make a difference. This had been happening 2 or 3 times per trip then no more, until next trip but its happening more often. A similar symptom is when driving with cruise control on, hitting a large bump or pothole, suddenly CC disengages like I hit the cancel button. Could it be some throttle sensor, since I understand 987s have electric throttle. Have you heard of this behavior before? Wayne, by the way, do you still sail? |

Sounds like the electronic throttle body is acting up.
You will need to replace the throttle body & get it adapted to the pedal. Is there any engine light on?

Sounds like the fuel pump is getting weak. Test the fuel pressure.

You can't really tell anything until you pull the codes to see if there is a fuel injection system problem? I would do that first.
That said, the cruise control thing is odd - I would maybe think that it may be as easy as your brake pedal or clutch pedal switch is loose or defective. They are cheap, I would probably replace those first, as the bump, cruise shutting off thing is odd... -Wayne
