Tiptronic question

I recently had an IMS bearing replaced in my 2000 Boxster 2.7 with Tiptronic. While the car was in the air, and the transmission out, The "tech" noticed that my trans fluid was in need of replacing?????? I figured what the hell, and told him to do it. In addition to the work already noted, I had the accessory drive belt replaced, the rear main seal replaced, and the engine flushed.
Anyway. When I got the car back, I noticed that when starting off. (in second as is usual), the car revs and accelerates properly, except for at about 3000 RPM in second, just before the shift to third, There seems to be what I can only describe as an additional shift. My RPM drops just a bit, then it accelerates to the third gear shift. Being kind of old school, I'd say it almost felt like it had a lock up converter. But I never noticed this behavior before.

I also noticed a bit of a whistle that I first thought was a belt noise. Now I'm thinking a possible vacuum leak.

So I guess what I'd like to know is does this transmission have a conventional torque converter, and if it does could I just never noticed this little "shift" point.
Also, If the noise I'm hearing is actually a vacuum leak, could that be effecting the shift points?

I have that little "extra" shift in mine as well. It has always been noticeable.

I recently replaced the ATF in my 2001S. It took me 3 or 4 separate check/fills to get it to the proper level. Like goldilocks: not too hot, not too cold (80 to 100 degrees F), engine running while filling. Now the little slips are gone.

What NewArt said. Have the ATF level checked. It is probably low. Took me an additional check and fill to get it right on my previous car.

Angry

Insult to injury! I was cruising along on Richmond Highway, Saturday afternoon with the top down, and the sun shining, doing about 45 mph. I heard a loud pop, then a vibration. Thought I blew a tire. So I put on my flashers, and turned into the turning lane, thinking I could limp across to the parking lot. When I stepped on the gas to go, NOTHING! The engine revved, but she no go.

It appears the bolts mounting the axle shaft to the transmission sheared. over torqued??? under torqued??? not torques at all?? I'm still waiting on a call from the shop to see what they have to say for themselves.

A common failure with backyard DIY's, but I would expect better from a shop.

What happened is that the axle flange bolts were not properly cleaned, treated with Loctite, and then torqued. Result: They back out and sheared off.

When the engine was "flushed" if this means they added a cleaning additive to the engine oil, unfortunately this deposits any particles "cleaned" from the engine into the lifters where they remain forever. This can cause the lifters to stick & tick requiring replacement. Probably the only thing the shop can or will do to mitigate this problem is another oil change ASAP.
