DIY shifter cables

Did anyone try to make own transmission shift cables (not buying Numeric Racing)? Say based on Hurst 5008555?

I'm surprise nobody has commented on this because
1. it is a job that eventually needs doing on many higher mileage cars
2. the Numeric parts are excellent(by all accounts) but expensive

Here is a link to generic shifter cables:

Here is a useful post with part numbers and diagrams that is obliquely relevant :

It would be great to have a generic/McMaster-Carr diy kit .

My current guess is that I need to get precise length (6 ft?) (still I have no time to extract cables) with both ends threaded, not just one. Then probably I will change transmission end ball pins to plain cylinders which will allow to use much better spherical bearings (even better than Numeric's bushings) , such as SSPM, SSPF Stainless Steel Rod Ends with Reinforced Nylon Raceway, Molded Race Rod Ends.
'Porsche' implies people are eager to pay, I guess. Racing cables for other brands cost less (Acura?) with the same 'quality'.

Great link -thanks
Here is the section that seems to apply?
Push-Pull Controls, High Performance Cables Part of CMCs Control Cable Assemblies
The complications are all in the dimensions/adjustment range for our application.
It really needs the cable control equivalent of a "Hose-Man" shop to replicate the Boxster cables at a reasonable price.
This would be a great little mail order business opportunity for someone to offer a well fitting replacement made from generic parts.
Aircraft Spruce have the parts:
Control Attachments/Fittings from Aircraft Spruce
That is the easy part. Selecting the correct parts and cutting the cable to the correct length would be a challenge!
