Clearing "Next Service" Codes
 

Hey all -- I'm still getting used to my new-to-me 2007 Cayman S, and it's been a great experience so far. I did get a message on my readout today that said "30 Days Until Next Service" (or something of the kind).

I feel that this largely does not pertain to me. For starters, the previous owner (a small dealer) did a minor service right before I bought the car (oil change, inspection, etc.). In addition, I plan on doing 90% of the maintenance work on the car myself, for obvious reasons. The next major service that's due is the 40k service (and that's still a ways off), and I don't doubt for a second my ability to change oil, air filter, cabin filter, and do a brake inspection on this car.

HOWEVER, how do I clear that "Next Service in..." code? Is it as easy as plugging in a code reader and clearing recent codes (and, yes, I do have access to a code reader)? Or is this a Porsche-shop-only kind of thing?

You will need either the Durametric software, or access to the OEM PIWIS system; they are the only two scan tools that will clear it.

May I ask "what are the details of a 40K miles service"?
Cause i am in the market for a Cayman (I think)

Go to your local Porsche dealer and ask for the maintenance sheet. The 40K is the first major service. I just had my 2011 Cayman S done by an independent shop and was hit with a bill of $1811.00. This included an expensive air filter and brake pads all around.

I did (went line)
Mostly anyone can do it .Some do spark plugs even if the book says 60000 miles.
Cabin filter and other odds and ends.

Sorry to be <slightly> off topic... but if you go to a dealer, be prepared for anything. I had what was supposed to be some specific work done by my dealer and they interpreted that to be the items in one of the minor (I think) services. I looked at my final bill and they had replaced the cabin air filter... and the parts cost for that filter was... wait for it.... $86.

I find it stunning that they can get away with that for a filter that Pelican charges something near $20 for.... and only takes a minute or two to change.

Yes get a Durametric, well worth the money
