Basic TPMS info
Howdy everyone - just thought I'd pass this on in case anyone can use some TPMS info. Most of this is likely available here somewhere... but here it is again.
Long story short, my '08 Boxster S had 2 TPMS sensors die just before the CPO warranty ran out. Porsche happily replaced them for free. Of course one of the 2 remaining ones died the month AFTER the CPO warranty ran out. That prompted me to look into replacing the remaining 2 TPMS sensors - the dead one and the other one that was likely to die soon. First, I checked with the local Porsche Parts guy, who verified that "most" US cars of my year used the 433mhz sensors. Based on that, I searched around and ended up going to OE Wheels LLC, where I found any sensor you could ever want on their web site... except the '08 Boxster. One phone call to them and the problem was solved. They have pretty much everything in stock. I stuck with OEM units, but others can be had for something around $40 each. A huge savings over dealer prices. They both installed perfectly fine and work great. I recommend these guys - I ordered on a Monday and they were in my mailbox on Friday. Considering they're in FL and I'm in WA, that's good customer service. Please note: I see that Pelican, our fine host also carries these sensors, and it may well be that your exact application would be better bought here. I can't say. I can say however, that Pelican service is the best there is.... if you need to exchange or don't know what you need, I'd call Pelican. That's just my opinion!
