no locking wheel nut socket- how to remove ?
Aprox. one year ago I purchased a 02 S but unfortunately it did not come with the locking wheel nut socket. The locking wheel nut appears to be OEM vs. aftermarket. I've looked at various UTube videos of guys hammering on various sockets to remove them. My fear is if the hammering on a socket doesn't work and you round over the nut what then ? I have already purchased replacement standard wheel bolts so preserving the lockers is not a concern I just want them off. I do have an impact wrench and good air supply. Suggestions ?

Tack weld a bolt to the locking socket, and spin it off with the impact gun.

Walk into the dealer's parts department and explain your situation. A story they have heard before I assure you. Buy 4 replacement studs from a dealer and, in my experience, the parts department will help you get the right socket to remove yours in the parking lot. Twice I was handed a box and brought em back after 10 minutes. Different makes.
I drove 5 years with no locks on the Boxster, 10 on another car. Didn't have fancy wheels but the tires cost $1,200. Darn sockets seem to disappear into mechanics tool boxes and, if you are lucky, you don't realize it until months later. |

He means tack on any nut to the locking wheel lug that you have a wrench for and spin it off. Can be a regular wheel nut or any other size that your socket fits.

My dealer has some kind of universal wrench set. Said he doesn't need the individual socket. I would simply ask Porsche service.

Bottom line, once you get that sucker out of there, replace it with a normal hex head bolt. The last thing you want to do is to try to wrestle with one of those stupid locking bolt heads on the side of the road in a pouring rainstorm...

Don't worry once they are off I already have " normal " replacement lug bolts. Someone from the 986 forum has offered to mail me a socket so once it arrives I should be able to get these off.
