The dual-row bearing ended in 1999 model year engines.

There seem to be plenty of exception to the rule. I have a 2001 2.7 with a dual-row bearing, now LNE. Some highly experienced people say you can't be certain in these middle years until you look.

2000-2001 was the transitional time frame, during which the car could go either way. There are no known ways to tell which one is in a given car, you have to take it apart and look.
