Hi, I did this mod few weeks ago on a 97 boxster and all went well. Cluster is perfectly functioning as well as all gauges, bulbs and trip computer. The only difference I noticed is spolier related. Now the spoiler raises at 120 km/h same as boxster but retracts at 60/km/h instead of 80 km/h, since the cluster is programmed for the 996 aerodynamic's need. Don't know if this change affects consumption in any way but I'm sure it doesn't affect vehicle stability since there is no risk at that speed at all. Hope this could add some to you very appreciated work. Thank you guys. Greetings from Italy.

It may add more drag, in turn you get more cool air over the engine. Fine trade off. You should be fine.
