Very thorough write-up... I am looking to purchase a 2003 Boxster S, but given this issue, I am naturally hesitant. My father owns an auto body repair shop, and I'm pretty handy with automotive repairs, but this is still concerning.

How many hours are involved in the entire repair - start to finish?

Really depends on your skill. I would set aside two days. One for trans removal. One for bearing and trans install.
