What are all the differences between the Cayman S and Edition 1
That is what I would like to know.
In my quest for a Cayman S I have learned of the "Edition 1" Is it just a name tag? Or is there more to it ? I posted this elsewhere but did not so far get a response. Perhaps this will be a better choice. thanx

There are two 987 engine generations. The 2006 to early 2009 Cayman and Cayman S have an IMS bearing that is non-serviceable from the outside, meaning the engine has to be dismantled to replace it. The Gen 2 engines (or 9A1) has the revised engine minus the IMS bearing (as we know it). The 911's as well have the same revision over the same time frame.

Ouch!
This is a 2008. Are there any pluses to an "Edition One" over the "S"

The 2006 only came as an S. It just happens to be the first engine version in the 3.4 liter. So there is no distinction associated with S except the later engines offered base Cayman as a 2.7 and the "S" as a 3.4
Not pluses so much but not to panic. My '06 has 98k and going strong. Drive it in a spirited manner getting revs over 3k regularly. Change the oil frequently at 3-4 k miles. Get the oil analyzed by Blackstone Labs to get a reading on engine condition. Do that every oil change. Use good oil. The non-serviceable bearings have a low failure rate.

Afterburn,
They are more commonly called 987.1 (2006-2008) and 987.2 (2009-2011). Both versions came in "S" and standard models, though I think the 987.1 standard came out in 2007--all 06 models were S models. I've owned and tracked two 987.1s and one 987.2. IMO, the faults of the earlier version are a bit over-hyped, but, that said, I opted for a 987.2 for my long-term track car. The big advantage of the 987.1s are that they are, for what you are getting, very reasonably priced. Terry |

There is a lot of variations with in species here. LOL
I know the "Edition 1" cost more brand new, than the "S". it seems they all came with PASM. My vin number page does not break it dwn to tell what goodies might be there. Other then all of them being black , having Pasm, perhaps there is no big difference

Afterburn 549, I think you aren't getting the full name. There was a 2008 special edition Cayman that was essentially an option package.
Porsche AG: Limited-edition Cayman S as Porsche Design Edition 1 - Porsche Cars North America Quote:
LA 2007: Porsche Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 is ultimate designer car - Autoblog My car is a 2008 Boxster S RS60 Spyder which is a special edition that's also essentially an options package except. All of the literature that references my car says it has 303 hp instead of the usual 295. The literature that I found for the 2009 Cayman S Sport (and the 2009 Boxster Sport Design Edition 2) all indicate that the Cayman and Boxster came with 303hp vs 295, but I didn't see any literature that said that the Cayman S Sport Design Edition 1 came with anything other than 295 hp. Whether it did or did not have the magic 8hp, the options that got bundled in were nice. I priced out the options on my boxster with the regular price for the Boxster S and the cost would have come in at $80k instead of the $69k that my cars MSRP actually was. PASM is a nice option and some of the other things that make the cars a bit more individual are also nice.

Thanx
As i understand this " Edition 1 " was a "push" an incentive to sell, as sales were slow and everyone was waiting for the big changes in 2009. However - It also turned 2009 was a bad year for sales, at least here in the states .
