Garage
The overflow is over their. Did it get hot ? When was the last time is was flushed and changed ? Also it could be the tank but think that would be more in the trunk area and not under the car ?

Yes, it got hot enough to set off the blinking red light on the temp guage. I purchased the car about 1 1/2 years ago and have not flushed the coolant system.
Any ideas?

Many posts on this. Pull back carpet and look under the coolant tank. A low level in tank will set off the red blinker as well. If the tank is leaking (very likely), the liquid will hover around and find its way out in front of the right rear tire. Replacement is a nasty job!

As your car ages, the coolant tank ages about 2 1/2 times faster due to poor construction and poor material. The tank expands as the water gets hot and leaks coolant. Sometimes it only leaks from the bottom and drops coolant onto your suspension, other times it leaks into the trunk. Just got done have a new tank installed when the IMSB was being retrofitted. My tank had a crack that only leaked when the tank expanded. If it all of sudden blows up, you'l be parked along the side of the road. The mechanic that replaced my tank said there's a wire bundle and if you push it aside, it's a bit easier to replace. I was going to do it myself but they cut me deal on labor since the transaxle was out to facilitate the IMSB (also easier to do if the transaxle is out)

check the tank cap part number. if it is an -04 number it is an old cap and should be replaced with a newer version that works properly. see Pelican parts catalog for correct PN. Even if it's the tank, do the cap as well.

The .04 is the new cap, the .00 is old.

Mine had a bunch of vertical cracks. Dealer wanted over $1400 to fix. Independent wanted $440 labor with my supplied tank. Took me a week, but it went in on my own. Porsche thought it would last forever. Not so. Tank was $73 on eBay for a repro.

I've heard nothing but "bad" about the reproduction tanks but maybe you'll get lucky. What's amazing to me is how "relaxed" Porsche has become. Look at the problems with the IMSB, rear main seal, coolant tanks etc etc. You'd thing for the amount of money they get for a car they would do some "in depth" testing of their product before releasing it on the market. I've owned 6 Porsche's and the only 2 I've had "worry" about were the water cooled cars. 996 and 987.
