Im having issues with my 2010 Cayman S. Intermittently clutch slips and occasionally becomes hard to shift. Mostly happens at autocross events. Im wondering if exhaust heat is overheating fluid in line going to clutch slave. The pedal itself at times doesn't return fully . Doesnt happen often but when it does clutch doesnt engage fully and shifting can be difficult as well. Im upgrading fluid and shielding clutch lines to see if that addresses the issues. If not whats best guess to whats failing? Master cylinder or clutch slave. Car only has 40,000 miles and issue has been going on since about 36,000.

Slipping would not be overheated fluid, that would be a worn out clutch.

I wish it was as simple as worn clutch. That was my thinking originally. I Replaced clutch , throw out bearing , pressure plate and issue continued. Worn clutch would be a consistent slip. This issue comes and goes and mostly happens at AX events . My thinking now is idling on grid was heating fluid to boiling point and causing slave to not work properly. Moved the clutch line, used high temp brake fluid and shielded lines. Idled car for extended period and then launched car hard . No issues so far.
given pedal wasn't fully returning with both clutches at times I'm thinking it was or is an issue in hydraulic system not a worn clutch. Especially given current clutch has less than 1000 miles and I have never been hard on clutches . I have owned a couple boxsters and never experienced this so hoping this was over heating fluid issue. So far so good! Slave will be my next item to replace if issue returns. |
