Dipstick Question

Starting the process of figuring out my burning smell. First step check my oil. But when I go to push my dipstick back in, I notice it is shoved in farther than it should. Almost like the end is supposed to be held in by a nut or clip. I tried to pull up on the dip stick with a pair of needle nose plyers but at soon as I push the dipstick back in, it shoves the tube down. Any ideas by chance?

Thanks

Take a peek at this thread here: Dipstick stuck! - 986 Forum - for Porsche Boxster Owners and Others and see if it might be helpful. Post #7 gives some information and photos of where the tube is attached. I'd probably check where it connects to make sure it's not disconnected in someway. If that doesn't help I have 2 suggestions:

1. Go to this article here: Porsche Boxster Oil Change | 986 / 987 (1997-08) | Pelican Parts Technical Article at the bottom you will see a comment box. Copy and paste this info into it and Nick may have more input for you.
2. Register on our Boxster specific forum here: 986 Forum - for Porsche Boxster Owners and Others - Powered by vBulletin. Those guys are very knowledgable and should be able to assist you further
