emote fob has stopped locking and unlocking the doors
Please can someone point me in the right direction.
I have a 2000 Boxster. Recently the remote fob has stopped locking and unlocking the doors (2 fobs and 2 new batteries) BUT when I use the fob to pop the trunk, it works and the doors unlock with the trunk as it should do normally I cannot find the answer anywhere. thanks in advance |

Check for a weak fob battery, they're cheap so just go ahead and replace it.
On my 01, door locks didn't work til I replaced the window regulators, then, amazingly!, the functions came back. Does the dash switch lock and unlock the doors? Have you reactivated the locking system by manually locking the door with the key? (Do this with the driver's window all the way down so you can reach in & pull the door handle if the system doesn't want to unlock.) The electric systems, to say the least, are puzzles and enigmatic. One thing after another is coming back to life. It's almost like the poor little car is thanking me for taking it away from its previous owner. (And I'm showering it with $100 bills and lots of love!)

Thanks Brian
I haven't replaced the fob as it is not working on either one (I have 2). The dash switch does lock and unlock the doors. I have reactivated the locking by using the key. Interestingly, you mention the regulator, the passenger window would not drop, cut a long story short, the cable had stretched or a spacer had broken, I re-tensioned this and that is now fine. I don't think its a direct link as that had stopped dropping BEFORE the doors stopped working on the remote fob. I will take apart the fob and clean them. Any other suggestions would be appreciated regards martyn |

Hi Brian
I had fitted each battery in the 2 fobs I have and no difference. The fob does pop the trunk (and unlocks the doors as it should). I have reactivated using the key. I did have an issue with the passenger window not dropping but this turned out to be the cable (stretching or a tensioner broke, an easy cheap fix by taking the slack up). So I am still at a loss and not sure where to go regards martyn |

If there is a pep-boys or autozone nearby , they often have a tester on the counter so you can check the fob is transmitting when buttons are pressed .
I just changed out a micro switch in my fob as it had broken . .49c part versus a $300 dealer key replacement . However , it would seem this isn’t your problem as both your fobs stopped working at the same time . There is a procedure for pairing keys , that involves ignition on for 3 secs press brakes lower window ignition on for 5 secs , or some such shenanigans iirc |

Also , I think I remember a .50c spring behind the door panel that pulls the interior release handle back into place .
If this thin spring has come loose or broken , the windows will not lower 1/2” when the door is open . And this in turn stops the door lock functioning . With a broken spring there will be an amount of play on the inside handle and playing with the handle will make the window go up and down . Please bear in mind this is a VERY vague recollection , and I could be way off ..... |

thanks Ian
pretty sure it is not the spring but will check. and yes, will try and get the fob checked but again, as they are popping the trunk, I don't think it is the transmitter regards martyn |

There are small micro switches under each button (that I talked of replacing earlier) , the fact one button is working doesn’t mean the other is ...
But like I say , the chances of both fobs going at the same time makes me doubtful it’s that . I thought I remembered being able to test them with a camera phone , but my Boxster fob doesn’t work , and my 997 has a light built in so the phone just pics up what the eye sees anyway !! |
