I need to change my heater core and coolant but I also have black foam blowing out my vents. If I remove the foam on the door inside the heater core compartment, can I just place duck tape on the door flap closest to the core? I took all the foam off both flaps but can only reach the one side of the door without removing the dash and heater ducking.

No, the doors have to seal and the foam does just that. I would replace the faulty foam.
