Cheap Race City Track Time... CSCC Regional
So you’ve been out to the Porsche Club Driver’s Events and Autocross over the past few years, maybe you’ve never been to the track, and maybe you are new to Porsche ownership and would like to drive your car as it was intended… This could be your last opportunity to get out to Race City before it closes forever this fall.
The Calgary Sports Car Club is hosting a Regional Event as part of the Solo 1 series and there are still a few spots available. So what is involved: 3 Day Event • Friday August 14, 2009 – 8:00 – 4:00 – Practice Lapping – this is done on the full track and is not timed. You must do a brief session with an instructor and will get a WCMA license if you plan to run in the times events on Saturday and Sunday. The cost? A mere $175. • Saturday August 15 and Sunday August 16, 2009 – 8:00 – 4:00 both days – Competitive Racing – this is timed on the full track. You will be grouped according to experience and run times and will be placed in run groups with similar cars / drivers. There will be other cars on the track at the same time as you but the cars will be spaced out accordingly so no contact can take place. Time permitting, there is likely to be open lapping after competition on each day. The cost for these 2 days? $175 for both days however you must have a WCMA license or take part in the Practice Lapping to come out for the Competitive Racing. • Spectators are always welcome at CSCC events. Passengers are allowed on Friday and during the practice session on Saturday and Sunday only. What cars and safety equipment are required? • Any car with a solid roof (Targa tops are OK but must have the roof panel in place), convertibles cannot take part according to WCMA rules without a WCMA approved roll cage. You do not have to have a Porsche to take part or even run your Porsche if you would rather drive a different vehicle. • Street tires are allowed. • No roll bar is necessary for coupes, targas, or sedans. • Snell M2000 or newer helmet is required. • There is a tech inspection that requires your car to be in good mechanical condition with no objects in the truck or cockpit that can fly around. Are any PCA members competing in Solo 1? • Yes, there are at least 10 current Wild Rose Region PCA members who compete in Solo 1 that run Porsches that vary from a 1970 911E to a 944 Turbo to a couple of 997 Turbos. How do I sign up? • Contact Eric Samoil at 403-861-9786 or solosprintcalgary@yahoo.ca .
