? Selling cars to USA

Inquiring, this won't be taking place till the spring if the deal does go, but what's all involved in selling two cars (911) to the same buyer in the states.
Need some feed back from any one that has done this.
Neither car is drivable.

1 What's all involved or how do you ship two cars? Both have complete drive trains which makes them rollers. Any ideal on shipping cost? Plus at the very less 20 big boxes of parts. 30+ years worth.

2 What all should I have to do? He wouldn't be here to load.

3 How the funds should be paid? He says cash deposit up front, balance when loaded to ship by bank transfered.

4 I don't have a ownership for one of them. Do I need to get one before being shipped? I'm in Ontario is it a big deal to get one.

All replies would be very much appreciated.
Thanks Hopper

Hey Hopper,

While I can't answer your questions to 100% of what you're looking for, here is my experience from the small handful of cars and motorcycles I've imported for myself and my folks here in Vancouver, BC.

1. For shipping cars, I've only ever used uShip - The Online Shipping Marketplace - Ship Freight, Furniture, Cars or Moves (or was it .com) You get to pick and choose the carrier of your choice, based on price, distance, quality of service, and feedback. Think of it as an eBay for shipping services. Some others may recommend a shipping company of some sort so your mileage may vary.

2. My understanding is if you are selling the car and it is going TO the United States, the purchaser must be present at the border in order to clear US customs and to sort out any kind of paper work. I do not believe Canadians can do this on behalf of US citizens. You may not be able to drive the car across the border and tell them you are selling it. It could get ugly. Best to ask US CBP.

You may need a letter from your provincial motor vehicle branch declaring the vehicle is sold and draft up a bill of sale, i.e. "I, bcrdukes, am selling my 1972 BMW 2002 tii to Mr. Hopper for the asking price of $5000 CAD and is sold as-is." The US Customs and Border Patrol will have information regarding importing vehicles into the United States.

3. I've always paid in cash (in person) or bank wire transfer. I have only ever used a motorcycle shop as a middle man / escrow service if you will. Several other friends have used certified cheques or American Express travellers cheques. Hopefully others can chime in. I've only dealt with reputable club members on the Alfa Romeo, BMW, Vespa and Yamaha forums.

4. You will need to obtain proof of ownership for all the vehicles you sell or else it gets ugly at the time of border crossing. Contact your local motor vehicle branch (sorry, I don't know what it's called in Ontario.)

Hope that helps!

Mike

your cars non-driveable condition is kind of a good thing. I sold a roller to the US a while back. I trailered it down and at the border when asked, told US customs the car was going down to be restored. this was true. I provided the buyer with a bill of sale and the registration by courier. it's much easier to register a car in the US than Canada.
no probs whatsoever. I dropped off the car at the shipping depot and came back home.

I ship vehicles for the company i work for weekly into and out of the states.
Its not that bad, however a bit of paperwork is involved rollers or not.
Couple of questions, who is going to clear it all through customs, you or the buyer?
there is some EPA forms that need filling out, commercial invoice, bill of sale.
Hopper send me your email, i will send you all the forms you will need.

Rob
