and why?
my vote goes for my 1979 924. you can really stomp on it and it won't break. it eats up curves like there's no tomorrow. i have had just too much fun with this little car. if you do break it, it's cheap to fix, and you're off and running in no time. though something tells me that a 550 Spyder or 718 RSK would be more fun (and scary). obin |

From my admittedly limited experience, I like the 944 S2. I have driven, 924, 944 NA, and 911 SC as well. All are great fun, but the S2 has superior handling and stopping power that will clear your sinuses. I live in a hilly region in PA and the extra power of the 3.0 liter engine really makes a difference. It is alot like the 924 with more HP and torque to get you out of the corner with the confidence to push really hard and that's what the fun is all about for me.

hey, we gotta remain practical here. though, i think that 935 would be a lot of fun. i heard that the water cooled heads can get up to around 800+hp!!!

Hello Obin,
You have a nice poll going; I own a simple, stock, '76 912E which I love to drive with my wife Susie in the hills of WPA on weekends. As you know the car is not powerful but retains the fabulous Porsche feel while being easy to maintain. The Good Lord has allowed me to also drive a friends 968 turbo located in Mistelgau Germany on numerous occasions and another 928 Calloway Turbo located in Latrobe, Pa. The 928 was prepped by the same Calloway that does the Corvettes. Each of these cars are extrememly powerful and fun to drive at speed. I don't think I could pick just one Porsche, since the small sampling I've experienced, makes me think that each Porsche is different and offers a special 'Driving Excellence'. By the way, Obin, each year in Pittsburgh we have a Vintage Grand Pree on a public roadway. This year the Marque is Bentley but next year it's 'Porsche'. If you find yourself near WPA next July 2002, let me know and I'll get you details.... Rich |

My daughters Barbie Boxter(OOPS Boxster) with the retractable hardtop. Low maintenence , great mileage and it parks under her bed
![]() Really any Porsche that is properly maintained and cared for is fun . For Me now it's the 911. When I had my 914 that was the ticket. [This message has been edited by ras911 (edited 06-18-2001).] |

Hi Obin,
I though I would add my vote. It has to be the 944 turbo. I have never driven one but I am just assuming. I had a 944 and it handles better than the 911 that I drive now. The only problem was lack of power. I would hammer that 944 into corners and I had a tough time making it fish tale! As for my 911 it is much tighter but easy to slide in corners. So I would just assume that if you had a 944 with more juice than it would be the car to own. thanks. |

Fun is a very subjective term.
My definition of fun tends to lean more toward handling rather than all out acceleration, which is why I own a 944S2, which would probably get my vote, since it is the Porsche I have had the most fun in so far! ![]() However, the nimble handling of a 914 or even a Boxster would probably put a huge smile across my face as well... The S2 offers superb handling, with just enough power to make things interesting on winding country roads. (Gotta find some on the way home from work...) Just my $0.42. -Zoltan. Definitely my Porsche: a 1974 911 Carrera 2.7.
Extremely agile and alacritous by virtue of it being a featherweight amgonst other, more modern 911s, and by virtue of its engine: the high-revving 911/83 RS MFI 2.7 unit, the last of the pure, purposeful (and dirty) 911 engines. The rear-mounted engine provides AWD-like traction, and ably assists the driver if he or she desires to steer the car with the throttle, a driving style that has more to do with having fun than going quicker. That being said, the 911 is more fun -- and devastingly quick -- if the tail is kept in line. Matt Holcomb [This message has been edited by Matt Holcomb (edited 06-28-2001).] |

most fun Porsche I've driven was a 1997 911 Turbo arena red on a gray.
I consider the 1988 930S (935) slantnose with a red on black interior. Not to mention to tune the motor to RCT specs ![]() ![]() ------------------ Porsche. Es gibt keinen Ersatz. |

I purchased my 1989 Speedster purely for high days and holidays, and I am convinced that no other car can raise such a big smile.

I am guessing the most fun Porsches are the ones that most of us will never get to drive! Such as the `67 911R, `73 Carrera RS, `74 Carrera RSR, `76 934, `78 935/78, `83 911SC RS, `88 959 Sport, `98 993 Turbo S, etc.

I cannot compare .. because I have only driven one Porsche. My '89 stock 944, 2.7l NA. I love it. I studied all models when I was 15. I really fell in love with the stylish looks of the 944. I realized it was only a 4 cylinder, but it was still a Porsche, and still looked awesome. 6 years later I finally obtained my dream car. Having 162 BHP is ok. Any less would be undesirable. As far as handling, the car is nothing short of amazing. What power the car lacks off the line, is made up for in the high speed cornering. I'm sure I would like the turbo even more... but after carefully considering the additional wear/tear/care/cost included with the turbo, I opted for the NA version. I look forward to many more years of Porsche driving.. my next choice car would be the 944 S2 (Carbio??), or 928 S4.

I own both a NA 844 and 911 (Carerra). I have also driven many other 911's.
For me, (average - but enthusiastic - driver) both have strengths and weaknesses. I prefer the 944 for city commuting (better shifting/clutching/power steering assist for stop-go traffic, quieter and more refined, better temperature regulation with water-cooled engine, etc). And overall, handles better than the 911. It's only faults are lack of power and (compared to the 911) it can be slightly boring especially on open roads simply because it is so neutral handling and predictable. (Tho I suppose no Porsche can really be 'boring'). The 911 is much more fun to drive but not as a commuting car in stop-go traffic (heavy steering/clutching/shifting, noisier, etc). But on open roads, the combination of power and handling is unbeatable. Either way, they are both superb cars! |
