High revs

When accelerating the revs increase substantially while the speed is not increasing as much as it should. I ruled out a sliding clutch by using the hand gear and placing the car in 1st gear (while letting the foot off the clutch- of course the car stalled. I have a Scion tC 2012 vehicle. What else could this be?

It's still likely the clutch. If not that, then something is slipping. Maybe the tires on the road, maybe something else--but it's most likely to be the clutch.
