engine timing on r50

I have removed the head from my 06 mini s using the cam lock, when I got the head off the pistons were all at the same position in the cylinders, is this correct ? or does number 1 have to be at TDC, like all the other engines I have built before are minis different?

the lock tool does keep the pistons at all the same height. however if you removed the chain from the upper sprocket the only way to re time it would be to remove the front timing cover and line all the arrows up again.
