Cause problems on a 2002 mini are 50

The clutch on my mini does not appear to be releasing properly as it’s difficult to get it in the first gear and it is also chattering when you start off. I’ve been told that this could be due to a defective slave cylinder, and that if it is, you should see some seafood seepage of brake fluid around the cylinder.

Any ideas for me to look at?
