1995 750il question
I have the oppurtunity to by a 1995 750il, the car is in immaculate condition and has 150,00 miles on it. The problem is that they say that a head gasket is blown. Can anybody how much they think it would cost to replace the gasket and could it be a job that I may be able to tackle myself? I may be able to purchase the car for a little over a thousand dollars and I really like the car, like I said the car is in immaculate condition. Just do not want to waste my money. I have a 95 325I that I love. Just curious about the 750il.
Thank you |

If you are mechanically inclined, replaceing the head gaskets is not a big deal. However, with that mileage you'll want to consider having a valve job done. At the very least, you'll need a machine shop to check the mating surface of both heads. If the head gasket blew, there's a chance it could have warped the head.
Afterwards, you'll need to factor for things in there like hoses, vacuum lines, stuff that is worn, etc.. Not hard, just time and money. Figure $500-800 to have the heads done in a shop. |

Thank you Jared. I called some mechanic shops yesterday and none of them even wanted to tackle the job. And my local BMW dealer said they would check on the price of replacing gasket and never got back to me. I love working on my cars and figured I could do it myself if I wanted to. I have unlimited time to work on this vehicle as I want the 750il for myself. I am turning over my 325i to my kids this summer for them to use. I have to tackle the great job of replacing the valve cover gasket here soon. Again thank you Jared made me feel alot better about the car. Are the 7 series as good as the 3 series?
Thanks, Matt |
