2006 Mini fuel injection issues.

Looks like I get to add another project car to my profile...

My daughters 2006 Mini wouldn't start in Minneapolis and she took it to a highly rated import shop there. They diagnosed a bad fuel pump and replaced that (along with the thread bearing front tires) and got it running. They also found some transmission codes and my daughter admitted that the car had recently been "slipping" at speeds greater than 50 mph (not good). It's the CVT transmission and the service rep told me in a long distance phone call that "I'd drive it straight to a dealer for trade in". Sorry, I've got better morals than that... Anyway, I towed up my wife's 2004 Camry up (900 miles each way ) and traded a good running high mileage Toyota for a broken Mini (the things parents do for their children ). Now my daughter had been able to drive the Mini to her parking garage from the repair shop two weeks ago - but when I arrive, it's a no start again. We pushed it on the trailer and after eight hours sleep, I'm back on the road.

So, I've got the Mini in my garage now, the engine cranks fine. But I'm not getting any fuel to the fuel rail. I've tried cranking and pressing on then Schrader valve to bleed the air (?) but no fuel. I've pulled the back seat and opened the compartment for the fuel pump. I'm listening for sound of the pump with ignition on or while cranking but not hearing anything. I did note an odd noise from the drivers side of the fuel rail after cranking. Almost like another pump spinning down or releasing pressure (perhaps the high pressure pump?).

So, I'm looking on some advice on what to do next. I'm thinking fuel filter but wouldn't that let SOME fuel through? I really don't want to just start throwing parts at this.

Also, the exposed fuel pump does appear to be new but the filter looks original (quite dusty on the cap). And I checked the fuel pump fuse - it's good.

Thanks!
