I'm from the old school and it was difficult to move fom 3 k to 5K oil changes, but it makes sense with today's oils. Both of the owners manauals for my 2003 & 2009 hatchbacks recommend 5-30 W synthentic oil all year round. I'm in Northern NJ, hot summers & cold winters. Should I be using "seasonal weight" oil? If so what do you recommend?

Nah, stick with the 5w/30 and you'll be fine.
