I own a 2007 Mini Cooper S Convertible - Sidewalk edition that was involved in an accident recently in Doha, Qatar. We drive the US-style LHD versions of the Mini here. The car was struck from behind and it was propelled towards a large SUV, the tow hook of the SUV penerated the Mini's hood and hit the Air Intake and the Engine Mount. Due to the retarded rules here, the Insurance company is only giving us the option to repair the vehicle from a non-BMW dealership. The garage says they can weld the parts together but wont guarantee its life. How bad is the damage here? Can it be salvaged?

I would not weld it back togehter it is a very simple job to replace using a jack and a pieace of wood and put under the pand remove the bolts use the jack to keep the engine from hanging and causing stress on other mounts... my experiance is im a mini technician.
